In this post I will share my experience on the issue of fleet fuel calculation and control. This topic might be more relevant to companies such as bus carriers (public transport), truck carriers (logistic), and some other companies with their own fleet.
I came up with a question – where does the fuel of the company go – after I noticed it on a home page of a telematics’ equipment manufacturer. Indeed, can all the fleet managers state with their hands put on their hearts that they know the answer to this question? And, do they have the tools for analysis of this data and for effective decision making?
When choosing dealership management system (DMS), one of the main tasks is to compare available systems. There are so many of them in the market, and their range is constantly changing. To make it easier for customers to select best fitting system, I have done some Internet research. In a result, I have made a list of 400+ TOP dealer management and fleet maintenance software vendors from all over the world.Some of the listed software cover full ERP and DMS functionality (like Elva DMS), some delivers just a DMS functionality, and some solutions cover only few specific functions that automotive industry organization might need.
The answer to this question is as follows – the Dynamics NAV (now know as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central) standard service module is not intended for automotive service management! What these two modules have in common is the word “service’.
I decided to write this article because at least 2-3 times per year I encounter a situation where a Dynamics NAV partner offers some after-sales service and fleet maintenance company to use the system’s standard service module or someone attempts to adapt this service module for the automotive industry. So why is the Dynamics NAV standard service module not suited for automotive service management? In this article, I will try to highlight the most important arguments why the use of the standard module is not the best option for the automotive industry.
